|
| |
| A relatively
short drive up from Boston, Loon offers 2,100
feet of vertical drop, snowmaking nearly everywhere
for reliable terrain, nearly 65% intermediate
trails and an excellent lesson's program. |
 |
|
A weekend excursion
to Loon offers a great mix: a reasonable distance
from Boston, a range of slope challenges, amenities
and attractions for the whole family.
|
 |
|
Loon has 45
trails, and lifts that include a gondola, six
chairs and three tow or surface lifts. Snowboarding
is unrestricted at Loon, and there is a terrain
park. The resort offers night tubing, just in
case you have energy left after a day on the
slopes.
|
 |
|
The resort
is well-known for its family focus; in particular,
several children's camps and day packages are
available for ages three and up. Click here
for more info on the many children's programs.
There is also a daycare facility if you want
to give your kids (or yourself) a break.
|
 |
|
Loon also offers
a good environment for those avid of Nordic
skiing: with about 20 kilometers of trails,
the resort allows those couples or friends with
different ski interests to practice their preferred
snowsports and still meet at night around the
fireplace. Click here
to get more information about the many options
available. In particular, Loon offers a reasonably
priced beginner Package at $51, that includes
a one-hour lesson, equipment rental, and an
all-day trail pass. Trail passes alone cost
$10 for a full day (8 am to 4 pm).
|
 |
|
Due to its
proximity to Boston, Loon can be very busy on
weekends. If you can get away during the week,
on less popular weekends, or when the weather
turns a bit colder than usual, you will encounter
fewer crowds and find the resort more enjoyable.
|
 |
| With only a two-hour
drive to hit the slopes, some find Loon
to be a reasonable day-trip destination,
and pass on the lodging altogether. On the
other hand, there are several choices for
accommodations that offer stay and ski packages: |
 |

is an on-mountain lodge with fitness center
and indoor pool; ski/stay packages start
at $99 midweek, $149 weekend (rates per

 |
The Comfort Inn and Suites
offers regular rooms and 2-room suites that
